Save Arizona's Minimum Wage! -- Salvar al Salario Minimo en Arizona!

At the end of February, the Commerce Committee of the Arizona House of Representatives approved a bill that would steal money from the paychecks of Arizona's lowest paid employees. The bill cuts the minimum wage by $3 for teenagers and $2 for tipped employees. greed.jpgTell the bill's sponsor, Rep. Steve Court, to stop giving breaks to the 1% at the expense of Arizona's working families!

Rep. Court,

We call on you to stop doing the bidding of Arizona's 1% by cutting the minimum wage by $3 for teenagers and $2 tipped employees. This is a special interest payoff at the expense of our state's working families. We demand you pull the bill or let it die.

It is absolutely wrong to lower wages for the lowest paid Americans. It is joke to say this will create jobs. All it will do is push more people further into poverty.

Aside from all the obvious morality questions here, the result will be that this will hurt the economy not help it. You will take what little these lowest income employees already pay into the economy (i.e. food, utilities, clothing, transportation, etc.) and make it so they will be unable to contribute to even the basic economic cycle (i.e. food and shelter), and so may also require government (state) assistance just to get by (i.e. to keep from being homeless, etc.). Not a well thought out plan.

Yeah, this proposal, along with telling women they can’t plan what children they want, plus telling university students and faculty to arm themselves is really going to help the state’s economy. What a bunch of einsteins we’ve got in the AZ legislature.

This is insanely cruel. In no other age but one of Robber Barons or the Gilded Age would we have an economy where “working poor” and “working homeless” would describe so many members of our society. Luxury goods sales go up and those being exploited die for lack of healthcare. What kind of country are we becoming? Call it what you will, it operates like a non-democracy, run by an aristocratic obscenely wealthy minority.

With increasing prices in gas, food, education etc. It is unfair to lower the minimum wage. People are having a hard enough time making it and teaching youngsters responsibility to work and save for their education and future, to lower the minimum wage gives them no incentive to work at all! Keep the wages as they ARE!
